Introduction:
In this contemporary epoch, we have access to various platforms to get news. Due to this, distinguishing between real and fake is a daunting task for everyone. Today, I would like to talk about a time when I received some erroneous information about a local event.
When did you get that incorrect information?
It was a few months ago when I was told about a community fair that supposedly was to take place on a Saturday evening in a nearby park.
How did you get this incorrect information?
This information came from a friend who saw a post on the local social media group. Excited about the event, I planned my weekend around it looking forward to enjoying the local crafts, food stalls, and live music performances that were advertised.
How did you determine it was false?
Upon arriving at the park that Saturday, I found that there was an unusually quiet environment devoid of any signs of the fair. We were confused, and I double-checked the social media post my friend had referred to, only to discover that the event had actually been scheduled for the following weekend. It turned out that the original post had been updated with the new date shortly after my friend had seen it, but neither of us had checked for updates.
And how did you feel about it?
Realizing the information was incorrect, I felt a mix of emotions. There was initial frustration, of course, because my plans for the day were upended, and I had passed on other opportunities just to attend this fair. There was also a bit of embarrassment for not verifying the event details myself before heading out. However, those feelings quickly gave away to amusement over the situation. It served as a reminder of the importance of double-checking information, especially when it’s obtained second-hand or via platforms where updates can easily be missed.
